I am sew excited! Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who nominated me in the British Sewing Awards! I am really so chuffed to be up there with so many great names! I would never have thought that just 9 months ago when I was designing my first project - the turned-applique Christmas Cushion - that I would actually be short-listed in the British Sewing Awards!
I chose to start this business because I needed to work after being made redundant from a 21-year career in production journalism. But I knew that I wanted flexible working hours to fit around the family, and it had to be something that I really loved doing.
I knew whatever business I was going to set up, I needed to be completely obsessed by it to make it work! I wanted to be able to jump out of bed every day and love working on it. I spent a lot of money on my business coach Ali Mapletoft so that I could learn what my calling was, what sort of business did I really, truly believe in, and then how to set it up and run it! And so when I created my business that felt so aligned with who I am and what I want to achieve I then had to learn the right mindset to make it happen. Nine months down the line I am still learning every day, and still really enjoying it - of course, there have been days when I've struggled to get out of bed when I have felt extreme overwhelm at how many pieces of fabric I am going to have to cut, or complete panic at the amount of admin and financial stuff I have to get through, but overall I love it!
I have come to realise, that as well as being creative myself - designing and making a new project every month (I am learning as I go too!) I really get such a buzz when I see my members' completed projects and the new skills they have learnt. Each member is one step closer to my goal of motivating and helping 1,000 people learn new sewing skills.
So thank you, from the bottom of my heart to my members for nominating me, and please vote for me - you could win a getaway break!
I am nominated under the Best Digital Learning Provider (Sarah Loves To Sew) the 19th category - you can skip all the other questions and still register your vote at the end. You could win one of two getaway breaks worth £3.500 !
